The desire of each staff member and ministry leader is to help people grow in their relationship with God. Because everyone is at a different stage in their faith journey, our team is here to help each person connect and progress in their relationships with each other, and ultimately with God.

Pastor Phil

Pastor Phil was installed as Pastor at GVLC in September, 1986. Phil grew up in Warren, Michigan, and graduated from Michigan State University with a BS in Physical Science. He then went on to Concordia Seminary in St. Louis Missouri and received a Master of Divinity Degree. In June, 1982, Phil was ordained in his hometown at the Holy Ministry at Peace Lutheran Church. His first call was at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa as an Associate Pastor and then as Senior Pastor. Phil is married to Marie, and they have three teenage daughters. His hobbies and interests include cheering for his daughter's sports teams, playing golf, and rooting for the Detroit sports teams.

Jennifer Hall – Director of Family Life Ministries

Jennifer is our Director of Family Ministries. Jennifer oversees our ministry to families with children from birth through grade 6. She coordinates and plans all education (e.g. Sunday School, mid-week activities), creates and facilitates parent education, provides spiritual growth opportunities through music, drama, studying scripture, activities, arts and crafts, and plans fun family-based activities throughout the year that foster relationships with others and most importantly, with Jesus Christ.

Cindy Inselmann – Director of Youth & Small Group Ministries

Cindy is our Director of Youth and Small Group Ministries.  Cindy oversees our ministry to youth and their families from grade 7 through college.  She coordinates and plans all youth programs by providing opportunities for youth to gather for worship, service, scripture study, fellowship , and evangelism.  She also helps Pastor Phil coordinate our adult small group ministries and provides support and training to the group facilitators.  Cindy's focuses on creating opportunities for youth and adults to build relationships with Jesus Christ and with each other.

Diane LaFontaine – Office Manager

Diane is our Office Manager. She oversees the day-to-day operations of our office by greeting guests, directing phone calls, answering questions and providing information about our church, preparing the weekly bulletins, creating the monthly newsletters, and a variety of other projects.

Randy Moe – Assistant to Pastor

Randy is our Assistant to Pastor Phil. Randy helps Pastor Phil with worship planning, preaching, and with leading other parts of our worship services. Randy also teaches adult education classes, leads Bible study groups, and helps with hospital and shut-in visitation.

Norma Schuldt – Spiritual Gifts Coordinator & Wedding Coordinator

Norma leads our Spiritual Gifts Discovery Class, and connects our members with areas of service based on their God-given spiritual gifts and talents. Norma also directs the Occasional Choirs and the GVLC Flute Group. She also participates in worship planning and serves as our Wedding Coordinator.

Kathy Mueller – Contemporary Music Worship Leader

Kathy organizes the musicians and leads the music for our contemporary worship services. Kathy coordinates rehearsals and focuses on providing worshippers with music that is powerful and relevant to the sermon. Kathy has added several new music groups over the past few years including a high school Praise Band and a Gospel Choir. She also leads the music for Vacation Bible School every summer.

George Berglund – Sanctuary Choir Director

George directs our Sanctuary Choir and Brass Ensemble. In addition, George participates in worship planning, directs major Sanctuary Choir presentations (e.g. Christmas services), and arranges for exchanges with other church choirs.

Spencer Schuldt - Organist

Spencer became our organist in 1965, and has since played for nearly all of our regular and special services, weddings and funerals at the church. He has composed and arranged many choral and instrumental pieces for performance at GVLC and elsewhere. He has also published with Selah Publishing.

Brenda Lovhaug - Director of GVLC Child Care Center

Brenda is the Director of our Child Care Center . Brenda oversees the day-to-day operations of the center. Brenda spends much of her time interacting with staff, parents, as well as with prospective families by giving tours and sharing information about GVLCCC. Brenda also hires, trains, and supervises all staff.

Judy Mohn - Parish Nurse

A member of GVLC since 1987, Judy started as our Parish Nurse in 1995. Judy provides one-on-one health counseling and teaching to our members. She often visits members in their homes or if needed, in the hospital. Judy also offers health education programs and classes at GVLC.

Board of Deacons

GVLC is a community that believes each person is shaped for serving God with their own unique talents and gifts. Our Board of Deacons is a team of leaders who apply their spiritual gifts, time, and talents in our various ministry areas to create the culture, worship style, and activities of GVLC. All members of our church community are encouraged to discover their unique talents and gifts, and to find the perfect way to get involved and serve God through our ministries.

President – Bob Mohn

Bob coordinates the functions, plans and activities of the congregation to further the work of Christ's Kingdom. He leads our Deacon's meetings and congregational meetings, and enforces Constitution and Bylaws of the congregation. He also appoints special committees.

Vice President/Secretary – Stan Schwantes

Stan supports the spiritual, physical, and material welfare of our staff. He records the minutes of all Voters Assembly and Board of Deacon meetings for anyone to review, and oversees the activities of the Treasurer.

Worship – Darren Waldrep

Darren oversees the worship of our congregation so that we provide a variety of opportunities for people to encounter God in a meaningful and inspirational way. His team provides worship support, such as greeters and ushers. He promotes the worship life of the Pastor(s) and congregational members, and supports the Pastor(s) by supervising everything pertaining to congregational worship including music, drama, and technology.

Fellowship – Lisa Bennett

Lisa works to strengthen both the spiritual and social relationships between congregation members. She works with other members to maintain a system for "soul accounting" by blending new members into GVLC -- fostering an atmosphere of cooperation, trust, and enjoyment.

Resources – Phillip Carlson

Philip oversees the management of our facilities, grounds, and equipment. He and his team also represent the church in legal matters pertaining to facilities, grounds, and equipment, and ensure protection of the church against loss or damage.

Financial Stewardship – Dave Barthelot

Dave oversees the management of the finances of our congregation. He works with our Treasurers to ensure financial stability through a developed program of giving, counting, recording, auditing, and budgeting. He also initiates programs that foster Biblical stewardship attitudes of our time, talents, and treasures.

Spiritual Growth (Adult) – Larry Fortun

Larry's ministry helps our adult members (aged 21 and older) develop a stronger relationship with Jesus Christ through study and application of God's Word. Larry works with others to provide a variety of adult educational opportunities including Bible classes, topical studies, and other learning programs.

Spiritual Growth (Children) – Rosie Miller

Rosie works with our Director of Family Life Ministries to provide a spiritual foundation for our children (6 th grade and under) to connect with Jesus as their friend and Savior. She provides on-going Christian education (for example, Sunday School and mid-week activities), and special growth opportunities throughout the year -- ( Vacation Bible School , Christmas Faire, dramatic skits, and more).

Spiritual Growth (Youth) – Steve Thielman

Steve works with our Director of Youth and Small Group Ministries to nurture the spiritual foundation of our (junior high, senior high, and post-high school youth) by involving them in the work of Jesus, promoting Christian fellowship through activities and events, and by providing on-going Christian education on Sunday mornings and during mid-week activities.

Communications – Karen Bros

Karen publicizes the work of our congregation, both internally and externally, though a variety of communication channels -- integrating the work of our congregation into the community, and communicating with the staff and congregation to keep everyone current on church news and activities.

Service – Jenny Carlson

Jenny coordinates and maintains existing service programs and develops new service opportunities within our congregation. She also helps members discern, nurture, develop, and apply their spiritual gifts and talents within the Kingdom of God .

Marge identifies and develops new ministry opportunities and plans future development and expansion opportunities of Christ's work.

Childcare Ministry – Peter Bunge

Peter chairs the Childcare Board which conducts tuition-based early childhood education programs based on God's love. The board sets guidelines for program operation, oversees program evaluation and long-range planning, and reaches out to children and their families.

Witness/Outreach – Katherine Johnson

Katherine and her team work with the members of GVLC to welcome people into an active relationship with Jesus Christ and with our church family. They develop strategies and programs to encourage members to share their faith and reach out to unbelievers.
